About The City

Stratford is a town in the Fairfield County, in Connecticut, USA. It's located in the Long Island Sound area at the mouth of the Housatonic River, and it was founded by Puritans in 1639. It has great historical legacy in aviation, theater and the military. It is bordered by Bridgeport to the west, Shelton and Trumbull towards the north and Milford (across the Housatonic River) along the east. Stratford was one of two principal settlements in southwestern Connecticut, and the other is Fairfield. Over the years, it eventually gave rise to more towns that chose to break off and were incorporated separately.

From Stratford, it eventually grew into these towns:

  • Shelton (originally named Ripton) in 1789, then the Ripton Parish separated from Stratford and grew into the town of Huntington.
  • From Huntington, Monroe was created in 1823.
  • In 1725, Unity became Nichols, and then North Stratford in 1744.
  • Long Hill chose to merge with Unity to also form North Stratford in 1744. Then North Stratford separated from Stratford and became the town of Trumbull in 1797.
  • Partially from Fairfield, Bridgeport in 1821.

The town has five islands, all located in the Housatonic River, named as the Peacock Island, Goose Island, Carting Island, Long Island and Pope's Flat north of Interstate 95. Unfortunately, due to low elevations, none of the islands can be inhabited by people. There was a sixth island known as Brinsmade Island, but it was washed away prior to 1964.

A visit to Stratford would be incomplete without visiting Long Beach, where the eastern end of the beach is open to the public, and includes parking and lifeguards. Towards the center portion of the beach lies a nature preserve which has nesting seabirds like kestrels and ospreys.

Performed a 14-point maintenance on a Ruud Central A/C.  Inspected both indoor & outdoor units.  Checked the indoor evaporator coil, blower wheel, capacitor, and drain pan.  Also cleared condensate line to ensure it doesn't leak during cooling season.  Measured system static pressure to confirm that system has proper airflow.  Checked the outdoor condenser coil, contractor, and capacitor.  Checked superheat & subcooling to ensure Freon charge was correct.  Inspected & tightened all electrical connections.  Lubricated all motors and tested amperages.  Changed air filter.  Confirmed system was operating correctly at this time.

We have somebody available to answer every phone call that comes in with a live person 24 hours a day / 7 days a week/ 365 days per year.  Answered the phone and discussed the customers home layout and needs.  Were able to provide the customer with explanations of the differences between ductless systems and central A/C systems.  Advised customer how important having a detailed load calculation done - to ensure we know the exact heat gain of the space - as well as reviewing the square footage and layout of the home.  By getting onsite we were able to determine that the home had too many smaller rooms that were closed and was a much better candidate for Central A/C than ductless.  The cost was less and her comfort level is much greater with this newer design.

Advised customer that if she had not had a maintenance done in the past year, that she should do that either way.  Agreed to perform a maintenance rather than charge customer a Response Fee.  Performed a complete maintenance on her oil boiler - including brush & vacuum out the combustion chamber; replace the filter, nozzle, and strainer; clean the electrode assembly; tighten all electrical connections; perform a complete combustion analysis; inspect the flue and confirm proper draft.  Leave system operating at maximum efficiency.

Performed a 14-point tune up for his Tempstar natural gas furnace.  Started at the thermostat to turn unit on and make sure it cycles on and off.  Inspected and tightened all electrical connections.  Changed air filter.  Inspected heat exchanger.  Performed a complete combustion analysis and checked for Carbon Monoxide leakage.  Checked gas pressure and found that it was low.  Gas valve should supply 3.5" W.C. to burners and this unit was only supplying 3.25.  Incoming gas pressure from the street was 4.5" W.C. so advised that gas valve was starting to fail and recommended repalcement.  Also tested the blower capacitor - it was putting out less than 90% of the microFarad rating.  Anytime a capacitor is putting out less than 90% of its microFarad rating there is a chance it will not allow the motor to run.  It also may cause premature failure of the motor.  Reviewed all options with the customer so he could weigh his options and decide which worked best for him.

Hi, On Monday, May 1, 2017 I had a hot water heater replaced. I was wondering if I could get an invoice of the job for my records and my taxes. Also I never got an owners manual for the hot water heater or the shut off sensor that was also installed. I would greatly appreciate all of this paper work to be emailed to the address provided and sent snail mail to the street address provided. Thank you very much
